World Championships, Dartmouth, 2009

Week 0 is what is written on the training program this week as racing starts Thursday. I can’t believe how fast 1 year has gone by, It has definitely been a year of ups and downs through injury or just simply trying to give the body and mind a rest. Yesterday was 1 year since the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics (8/8/08). Crazy!
For the last 3 weeks I have been training in Ottawa at the Rideau Canoe Club. Rideau has been amazing at making us feel all so welcome and at home. Thank-You! Training has been tough, well its tough anyway but when I have been training with two good mates who just happen to be literally two of the fastest guys going around this year Anders Gustafsson and Adam VK it would occasionally get out of hand and the pace will be flying. Definitely not complaining as it has been a lot of fun and can only help all of us.
I have not yet been down to the racing course in Dartmouth but from all reports it seems to get really windy, predominately head-cross wind from the left. I don’t mind a strong head wind or tail as long as the waves don’t get to big but I am definitely not a fan of cross wind! It will be very different for me just to be racing on an open lake. I struggle to get through 1000m without “falling asleep” on a man made course as it is. It’s hard to know how fast your going on a lake as there isn’t too much flashing by. Either way though I’m sure as soon as that gun goes all the training will just take over and get me through it.
Tomorrow most of the Aussie guys, including myself, have a 200m race off for the new event this year the 200m Relay race at the end of competition. Either way watching or racing in is going to be very fun and an exciting race. I will try to keep the website up to date everyday but can make no promises. Also Happy Birthday to my little sister Bernadette!!
