Living the Szolnok dream…

Another two weeks have past of the “Summer Slaughter” and they have been tough! We are in Szolnok, Hungary, at the moment which is a great place to really get stuck into training simply because there is nothing else to do here! There is a good atmosphere as the Hungarian teams have had training camps here for the last couple of weeks. We have 1 more week in Hungary before heading off to Canada. Which is a little earlier than anticipated but I think will definitely be a good thing. The weather has been extremely warm even with the 30 minutes of thunderstorms every afternoon. I can only hope that Canada will be this hot! For the past few weeks training has been quite a large volume and a “hard grinding pace” with heavy gym. Over the next few weeks training will be shorter but more intense, I am still not quite sure what is better

There is five weeks to go until World Championships where I will have to paddle as hard as I can for as long as I can and hopefully make it to the finish line of the 500m mark or the 1000m first. We were able to watch parts of the European Championships last weekend. It’s great to watch as it really makes me excited to race again, especially watching Anders Gustafsson bust out for 500m with a time in the 1.35’s. I thought there was a gentleman’s agreement that nobody was going to paddle that fast again or at least until the year before the next Olympics. It is certainly going to be scary if people are doing these times now. What times will be done at the next Olympic Games?

The Pic is of Jimmy showing us all that he still has the it!
